What Splitright does
One group, one shared list of expenses. Splitright keeps track of who paid for what and works out the balances, so nobody has to rebuild the trip budget in a spreadsheet afterwards.

How the group code works
Every group has a six-character code. Share it with the people in the group and they can join from their own device — no sign-up, no email address, no password. That is also why the code matters: it is the key to the group. We explain the mechanism and its trade-offs in full in our guide to splitting expenses without making anyone sign up.
Group codes are access credentials. Anyone holding a group's code may be able to view and change that group's content. Share codes only with people you trust and treat them like a password. The full rules are in the terms and acceptable use policy.
Three ways to split
- Equally
- The default. Divide an expense evenly between everyone who took part.
- By exact amounts
- For bills where people ordered different things — enter each person's share directly.
- By percentage
- For costs that are shared unevenly on purpose, such as rent split by room size.
Settle up with fewer payments
When it is time to square up, Splitright proposes a set of transfers that brings every balance back to zero. Turn on the option to simplify transactions and it looks for a shorter chain of payments instead of everyone paying everyone. You make the payments yourself, however you normally do — Splitright just tells you the amounts.
No account, no ads, no tracking
There is no account system in Splitright: you do not create a profile, you do not give an email address and there is no password to forget. If you want the reasoning behind that — and the arithmetic of equal, exact and percentage splits, rounding and settling up with the fewest payments — the guide goes through it. This release contains no ads, no analytics or tracking SDK, no subscriptions and no in-app purchases.
Independently checked. Exodus Privacy, a non-profit that scans Android apps for embedded trackers, analysed the Splitright build from Google Play on 27 August 2026 and found 0 trackers and four permissions (network access, network state, licence check and a receiver permission Android adds itself). We did not write that report and cannot edit it: read it on reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org.

What Splitright is not
Splitright does not move money. It is not a payment app, a bank, a wallet or a financial adviser, and it does not connect to your bank or card. Balances, exchange rates and settle-up suggestions are informational — check them before paying anyone.
It is also not a backup. There is currently no automatic retention schedule, self-service deletion or export feature, so Splitright should not be your only record of shared expenses.
Comparing it with the alternatives
Splitright is a smaller, narrower app than Splitwise and the rest of the category, and there are cases where you should pick one of them instead.
